it’s a furry, cozy holiday!

we cut our holiday gift list down to size this weekend with some speedy faux fur throws!  these are so simple to make and feel all sorts of soft, silky, fuzzy and all around amazing!

these throws have excellent drape. . . here they are making our favorite club chair a bit more inviting (and a wee bit more posh too!)

we had so much fun making them, that we whipped one up for the kid too! . . . if you look really carefully, you can just see his toes peeking out on the right side behind his new blanket.

and here’s a step by step tutorial of what we did . . .  (more…)

st. jacqueline?

we’re having a bit of a baroque embellished moment . . . and have accordingly fallen head over heels over this highly ornate scallop knitting pattern from an old knitting book.

knit with our latest joie de cashmere yarn, jacqueline has just enough sparkle to be worn from day to evening.  we’ve draped it around an evening gown . . . but it looks really chic paired with a rugged biker jacket! (we have one on order . . . so as soon as it arrives, we can hopefully show you our vision!)

a bit of trivia for ya:  scallops are the emblem of st. jacques (or st. james in english) . . . our wrap is named jacqueline, the female form of jacques in french.

jacqueline is free with the purchase of joie de cashmere yarn required to make the project.  just write “jacqueline” in the comments box and we’ll send you a hardcopy of the pattern.  there’s no need to add the pattern into your cart to receive the offer.

joie de cashmere

it’s fall finally and time for new yarn!  over the summer we’ve been working on developing “joie de cashmere,” a delightfully sparkly sport weight cashmere yarn, spun from 4 superfine strands of italian cashmere and japanese metallic filament.    while difficult to capture on camera, under the right light the resulting knit fabric shimmers like fresh dew drops in the morning.   (more…)

baby bretagne

when you have one of these . . . everything you think you’re going to accomplish, kind of comes to a halt or at least slows to a snail’s pace.  baby monstaa / holiday elf / ‘lil cupid has figured out how to crawl and cruise, leaving a bit less time than we had predicted for finishing projects.  we started this pint-sized bateau top for him back in march, thinking that he could wear it on a family trip to france.  of course, that didn’t quite happen and we put off finishing the sweater until august. mint lemonade, anyone?

it’s safe to say that we’ve been obsessed with this season’s mint and lemonade color combinations.  it’s been popping up everywhere, and we’re SMITTEN!  so much so, that for the last few days, we put all other projects on hold, picked up our needles, and started to knit a mint lemonade blanket in moo cotton that baby can use in warmer weather. wool house in london

yes, that really is a topiary made of wool!  while in europe last week, we managed to pop into the wool house exhibit set inside of somerset house in the london.  the exhibition–part of the campaign for wool, endorsed by the prince of wales–ran through this past sunday the 24th, and if you didn’t manage to make it, we decided to share some of our photos.   in a nut shell, the exhibit set to show examples of everything that can be done with a sheep’s fleece.  we went about 10 minutes before closing, and as such didn’t have much time to take down the details . . .  but we’ll let the photos sing their thousand words . . . ready? here we go!
