insta-shirtin’: dans la lune’s cotton shirt

The Kid was in the studio the other day and since I had my sewing machines out, he decided that mom absolutely had to make something for him (it must be nice to have a personal wardrobe maker on command?!).  After a quick 15 minute websearch, we stumbled upon Dans La Lune’s Cotton Shirt pattern (she also has an etsy shop).   The pattern is designed specially for woven materials, and seemed easy enough to whip up.  Sewing with the Kid generally means straightforward, easy…

nani iro, charlie tunic + twins!

i had been extolling the virtues of double gauze to my friend A for a while now.  she doesn’t sew, but she’s my partner in crime in digging out cute clothes for kids and hunting down the latest and greatest exquisite pastry shop to open in nyc.  she’s also the proud mother of two adorable fraternal twins! once after i put together the charlie tunic for the kid, i decided to make two more versions for A’s twins out of nani iro’s 2015 mountain view…

ihme chamber, charlie tunic + the kid

made by rae‘s ever versatile charlie tunic sew in IHME Chamber double gauze and worn by the kid.  to put it mildly, i’ve been obsessed with this particular IHME Chamber’s print since i first laid eyes on it a few months back.  if you look really really closely, you can spot all these mischievous mystical woodland creatures that seem to resonate so well with the mischievous personality of the kid (don’t let those plump rosy cheeks and tiny hands fool ya. . . he’s MISCHIEF…

isoceles shell: prototype #1

minor miracle!  we actually found some time to finish a project . . . this is the isoceles shell, so named after the isoceles triangles that make up the side panels.  admittedly, it doesn’t look like much hanging on the dress form (need to find a tripod or selfie stick!), but it’s become a summer wardrobe go-to! being double gauze, the fabric is soft, breathable and something to be lived in!   the isoceles side panels create movement and ease . . . but more so,…

a doubly curious camellia oil gauze

we ordered these wonderful aqua bloom double gauzes from yuwa six months ago and they finally arrived! while we swoon over the delicate and lyrical watercolour florals, the magic is really in the cloth itself! The base cloth of these double gauzes features a camellia flower that has been woven into the cloth.   What’s more the fabric has been treated with a proprietary “SmoothSkin” process, where camellia oil (also known as  camellia japonica oil or tsubaki) is adhered to the fabric, giving it a soft…

munchkin’s harem pants

for some time now, we’ve been dreaming about dressing munchkin boy in harem pants (is that odd?).  finding ourselves with a few spare moments in the studio, we decided to whip up a pattern and make a prototype! the ones here are stitched out of cotton + steel’s bespoke ephemera double gauze print.  we used just 3/4 yard of the fabric, and fortunately little munchkin’s legs are still short enough that we could cut the fabric along its width so as to achieve a vertical…
