nathan errata

we goofed! the nathan pattern has been amended and the errata is shown below:

Right Shoulder
Drop a stitch marker at the mid point of the row, i.e. slip 22 (26, 30, 34, 38) sts, drop stitch marker and then slip the stitches back to left-hand needle.
Row 1 (RS): K until last 4 sts before stitch marker, then K2tog, K2.

  1. Can someone either post a video of how to knit this mistake in the pattern or give more details? This is my first project, and I was fine until this point, then I thought I made a huge mistake and ripped out a lot before checking web and saw errata…I printed this pattern out in January, and this is very frustrating.

I realize the pattern took me to the left shoulder instead of the right, but I’m not sure what you mean by slipping stitches to “drop”a stitch marker. Stitch markers can simply be placed wherever…With a circular needle, please specify what is the left needle….This has me spinning in circles. The pattern looks nice, and I want to finish! Any help here????
    Thanks,

    1. The errata corrects the original wording of the pattern. Instead of knitting all the way to the end of the row, you are knitting to the middle of the row in this section instead. Depending on the size you are knitting, the middle of the row will occur after stitches 22(26, 30, 34, 38).

When revised Row 1 under Right Shoulder reads, “Row 1 (RS): K until last 4 sts before stitch marker, then K2tog, K2″…this means that you should K18 (22, 26, 30, 34), then K2tog, K2.

You do not need to place a stitch marker at the midpoint. However, since it is easier to count 4 sts than 18+ sts, we recommend placing a stitch marker after stitches 22(26, 30, 34, 38). For all sizes, knit up to 4 sts before the stitch marker, then K2tog, K2.

To place a stitch marker at the midpoint, you would simply slip 22(26, 30, 34, 38) from your left hand needle to your right hand needle, place the marker on the left hand needle and then slip those same 22(26, 30, 34, 38) back to the left hand needle. Note that even with circular needles, there will be a needle that you hold in your left hand and one that you hold in your right hand.

  2. I’m currently knitting this vest and find that the neckband lacks complete directions. It doesn’t specify where on the garment to start picking up the neckband stitches, and I don’t undetstand where the decreases occur. There should be some shaping/decreasng at the cetner of the V, correct? Could you please clarify? Thanks-it’s a very attractive pattern.

    1. you should pick up stitches where the tip of the V forms in the front of the sweater. the collar section as written does indicate where decreases occur (SSK, K2togs)
