queen of dots

you could say that yayoi kusama, the queen of dots, has landed in nyc.  a retrospective on the japanese artist’s works, which has been circling the globe for the past few months, popped up at the Whitney Museum around mid-July and will be there thru Sep 30. you’ll also see yayoi’s very polka dot friendly collaboration with louis vuitton in stores.  and this morning, as we took pearce the puppy on his morning walk, we snapped a picture of yayoi’s guidepost to the new space installation along the west side highway.

what do you think?  does yayoi inspire you to go all dotty?

and here’s a page dedicated all things yayoi!!

liberty remnant necklaces

yup…we’re magpies, liberty fabric magpies, that is!  you know those little bits and strips of liberty fabric that you’re sometimes left with after a project that are too small for any sort of sewing and yet too precious to throw away? well!  if you’ve got lengthy strips in the bunch, they’re great for making jewelry . . . we finally got around to doing so this week, using a few longish strips in our stash to dress up a simple bronze rolo chain.  wear the chains together, alone, wrap it around or wrist as a bracelet, or even attach some tassles or charms to jazz things up! here’s what we did . . . (more…)

soon to be . . . aidan

WINNERS!

Oops! We forgot to announce the winners on the 10th.  They are:  Jackie & Liesa!

GIVEAWAY

in celebration of our 1st birthday, we’ll be giving away the Aidan pattern to 2 randomly selected people who leave us a comment on our blog! winners announced July 10 . . .

one of our designers is expecting in the fall, and whipped up this baby blanket for the baby boy tumbling around inside of her.  she hasn’t as yet figured out a name for her child, but we’re calling her creation aidan (which means little fire) because it always struck us as a very nice name for a little boy.

aidan is knit flat in one-piece on US9 (5.5mm) circular needles, using a “slide & turn” technique for the color work.  once you get the hang of its 4 row repeat, things just zip along!  knit with qualità cashmere, aidan is sure to be soft against baby’s delicate skin and keep him warm and cozy throughout fall and into deep winter.

aidan is free with the purchase of the yarn required to make the project.  just write “aidan” in the comments box and we’ll send you a hardcopy of the pattern.  there’s no need to add the pattern into your cart to receive the offer.

cotorienne!

we’re pretty smitten with Cotorienne! it’s Yuwa’s latest collaboration with the Anyan, a Japanese artist.

“Cotorienne” is a coined word integrating several words and stories.”Cotori” means ‘a little bird’ in Japanese, which is such a dainty creature. “…ienne” is a suffix meaning ‘girl or woman’ in French, and ‘chic’ in Japanese. “Cotorienne” is a fabric brand which is free-minded like a little bird flitting through the sky. It produces a chic style in your life.

Cotorienne is now available in our shop:

Moon Rabbits
Oasis
Utakata

And here are some fun project ideas from Cotorienne’s website:
