over the years, we’ve knit a LOT of hats. and while we love knitting them in the round with cables up and down, somewhere along the line, we decided to give cables from side to side, knit flat a go . . . and that’s how holland came to be.
we originally designed holland to be knit with one skein of happy mink — our house brand of handspun cashmere and mink fibers, which when knit up produce a lusciously soft fabric (miss e — oooed and ahhhed when she touched it). holland utilises short rows to achieve its sideways shaping. we put together a short row tutorial to illustrate how the technique is done. in doing so, we pulled a bit of moo cotton (shown in clementine) for demo purposes (it’s got much crisper stitch definition than handspun). we got so hooked on knitting holland, that well, we ended up finishing the entire pattern . . . and that’s how holland in moo cotton came to be.
miss e, modeling holland for us on a sunny bright day.
holland is free with the purchase of 1 skein of happy mink. just write “holland” in the comments box and we’ll send you a hardcopy of the pattern. there’s no need to add the pattern into your cart to receive the offer.
